SWAMPSCOTT — The Swampscott Planning Board voted unanimously to send a new administrative site-plan review process to the town meeting warrant. The change lets the board waive public-notice requirements, which one member said cost "$500 in three weeks of waiting period," for minor modifications to already-approved projects. Separately, the board approved site plans for 68 Puritan Lane, 5 Huron Street and 39 Estabrook Road, and continued a hearing for 180 Puritan Road when the applicant did not appear.
The board also gave extensive, non-binding feedback on National Development's 140-unit Glover Multifamily Overlay District proposal at 299 Salem Street, where vice president Ryan Murphy said "the height is a direct byproduct of the preservation of the Glover," seeking a waiver above the district's 50-foot limit. Chair Joseph Sheridan called the height "very uncomfortable," noting it would be the town's second-tallest building. Historical Commission Chair Nancy Schultz praised the preservation effort as "brilliant."
