Select Board · Meeting of January 7, 2026

Swampscott Select Board voted 4-0 to appoint Patrick Luddy as the town's first director of finance and Kathleen Dupont as town clerk. Town Administrator Nicholas Connors said 28 candidates applied for open police positions, with nine advancing to interviews. Director of Community and Economic Development Marzie Galazka told the board the 41-unit Veterans Crossing affordable housing project faces a culvert relocation cost of $758,000, covered by a $750,000 state grant, $123,000 in contingency funds and up to $100,000 pledged by developer B'nai B'rith Housing.

Solid Waste Advisory Committee member Wayne Spritz said the town's recycling contamination rate is reported at 30 percent, "far above the state average," as the committee works toward a new hauling contract before the current one expires June 30. The board also voted 4-0 to approve a request for qualifications for town counsel and to approve House Bill 3917 on recreational land tax treatment.
