Select Board · Meeting of September 8, 2026

Swampscott Select Board unanimously approved an earth removal permit for a 163-unit residential development at 555 Essex Street. The permit required revision to ensure compliance with the town's Earth Removal Bylaw. The project generates minimal earth removal needs, approximately 1,000 cubic yards compared to 30,000 yards excavated during construction of the new elementary school.

The board also adopted proclamations recognizing September as National Suicide Prevention Month and National Senior Center Month, and reviewed strategic priorities spanning financial stability, governance, public safety, economic development, and veterans services while initiating a charter review process to evaluate whether the town's governing document continues meeting community needs.
