School Committee · Meeting of February 26, 2026

SWAMPSCOTT — The Swampscott School Committee voted to approve a pay raise for teachers who tutor students at home or in hospitals. The four-member roll call vote approved a memorandum of agreement with the Swampscott Education Association that, in the vice chair's words, aims to pay those tutors "as closely as they'd be paid on the open market." Separately, a staff member identified as Elmore reported the district is projecting to finish fiscal 2026 "under budget by $65,293," with special education costs running $392,000 over budget, an overage partly anticipated after $200,000 was shifted into the district's Special Education Reserve Fund. The committee also formalized the vice chair's authority to sign documents as acting chair, a role held since former chair Amy O'Connor resigned months ago.

A staff member called Martha told the board there "really is no predictability" in state transportation reimbursement rates.
