School Committee Approves Superintendent's 3.5% Raise
Swampscott School Committee approved a 3.5 percent raise for Superintendent Jason Kalishman.
School Committee · Meeting of August 20, 2026
Swampscott School Committee approved a 3.5 percent raise for Superintendent Jason Kalishman. Members voted 5-0 by roll call to approve the increase for the 2026-2027 school year, correcting what member Miguel called a "shocking" gap in Kalishman's original contract that included no raise between his first and second years. Chair-presiding member Glenn said the funding "was already spoken for" in the current budget and compared the move to a recent superintendent agreement in Marblehead.
The committee also voted unanimously to reappoint Kalishman to the North Shore Education Collaborative board and heard updates on a new high school track starting construction August 24, a cafeteria flooring replacement, and a jump in Swampscott High School's U.S. News & World Report ranking from 98th to 58th among Massachusetts high schools. The board's bullying prevention and intervention plan was tabled for further policy review.
