Tree Committee approves rubric for evaluating developer plans

Tree Committee · Meeting of April 9, 2026

SWAMPSCOTT — Tree Committee approves framework for evaluating developer plans. The Swampscott board voted 4 to 1 to adopt an amended rubric that will help the Planning Board assess site plans, with the framework addressing tree replacement diameter standards in an updated landscaping bylaw provision. The committee is preparing to plant 35 trees across multiple neighborhoods by early May, with Gino Cresta, Director of Public Works and Tree Warden, sending homeowner notification letters this week on existing fall 2025 requests.

The group also voted 4 to 1 to approve a letter on the Hathorne Reuse position for signature by the Swampscott Conservancy, and scheduled a Nelson Darling Memorial Tree planting ceremony for Saturday, June 13, 2026 at 10 a.m.
