Swampscott Solid Waste Committee reviews new trash contract details ahead of August 1 launch. According to a presentation by Nick Connors, the shift to automated pickup from manual collection would avoid costs of $480,000 for just one year of manual service. DPW ex-officio member Gino Cresta reported on current waste collection operations, including metal and Styrofoam collection, hazardous waste collection on June 13 in Marblehead, and resumed beach litter pickup.
New 35-gallon carts will be distributed in early July; residents can sign up for smaller recycling carts, and second trash carts will be available for a fee.
