Historic District Commission approves Banks Road porch enclosure

Historic District Commission · Meeting of March 2, 2026

Swampscott Historic District approves porch enclosure despite preservationist objections. The commission voted 2-1 on March 2 to approve a certificate of appropriateness for Wolfe Design Build LLC's proposal to convert a front porch into a powder room at 26 Banks Road, maintaining original columns and installing Andersen 400 series windows to preserve historical character. Alternate member Sylvia Belkin opposed the project citing concerns about loss of character-defining architectural elements.

The commission also continued review of a window-replacement proposal at 179 Redington Street to its April 2 meeting.
