Committee seeks separate bacteria tests for culverts
Swampscott's water panel voted to demand separate bacteria testing for the Swampscott and Lynn culverts at Stacey's Brook.
Water and Sewer Infrastructure Advisory Committee · Meeting of January 6, 2026
Swampscott's water panel voted to demand separate bacteria testing for the Swampscott and Lynn culverts at Stacey's Brook. The Water and Sewer Infrastructure Advisory Committee, chaired by Kelley Begin, voted 5-0 twice: once to back a sampling expansion letter from residents George Allen and Andrea Amore, and once to ask the Select Board to push testing agencies to stop combining Swampscott and Lynn results. Select Board member MaryEllen Fletcher asked the committee to document flaws it found in Kleinfelder's asset management report, saying the spending on the consultant is "pretty substantial." Member Terry Dansdill called a December Kleinfelder slide "a horrible slide" for lacking clarity on which town's data it reflects.
The panel also set 2026 priorities including a sewer lateral bylaw targeted for the May Town Meeting and continued study of water system losses estimated at 20 to roughly a third of total flow.
