Climate committee advances sustainability guidelines, grant strategy

SWAMPSCOTT — Climate Action and Resilience Committee reviewed sustainability guidelines for development projects. Committee members agreed to differentiate standards between residential and commercial projects and add construction waste-diversion requirements that the Planning Board requested to evaluate developments. Staff reported the committee will resubmit its Climate Leader Municipal grant by May 2026 following a no-cost National Grid building assessment, then submit a larger competitive grant in August.
A proposed solar canopy at Swampscott Elementary will not advance for five years pending infrastructure work; officials are exploring alternative municipal sites for funding. Seven heritage trail signs have been fabricated and are pending town administrator approval.
