Swampscott climate panel votes to direct renewable energy funds to local green projects. The Climate Action and Resilience Committee voted four to one to direct renewable energy credit funding from the community power aggregation program toward local initiatives such as solar rebates and electric vehicle charging stations, rather than using the funds to reduce costs for program participants. Martha Schmitt, the committee chair, introduced the motion, seconded by Richard Frenkel, with Suzanne Hale and Theodora Dimov voting in favor.
George A. Allen opposed. In other business, the committee finalized a sustainability evaluation rubric for the Planning Board and reported that a National Grid assessment identified space at Swampscott High School for geothermal wells and a solar canopy.
